stand outstand out

Pick me! Pick me!

People don’t talk anymore.

The traditional High Street is long gone. Customers no longer get to see who they’re buying from in person. All interaction is done online, through chatbots or social media.

Because every business appears to be jumping on this virtual bandwagon, it’s becoming harder and harder to differentiate yourself from the crowd.

What can you do that makes you stand out? Why should customers come to you rather than the next search result on the list?

Make yourself stand out

The rise of social media has lessened the need for face-to-face contact and good old-fashioned conversation.

How many websites have you seen recently that only allow you to make contact through email or a contact form? Some even have a list of FAQs, and only once you’ve trawled those (and their forums) are you given the option to email your question.

Why email? Why not offer a phone number so you can talk to a real person?

If you want to make your business stand out, make it accessible.

Yes, we want to talk to you

I get so frustrated by the number of companies that hide behind their website that I no longer use those that don’t publish a phone number (wherever possible).

Why wouldn’t you want your customers to get in touch with you?

What have you got to hide?

It’s not enough to say, “Complete our contact form” or “Send us an email” – I’ve tried that, and on numerous occasions, my email or contact request has fallen on deaf ears, and I’ve never heard back from anyone.

If you want to be different, welcome your customers with open arms. Proudly display your email, phone number and postal address to let it be known that you are there to help them.

Forget flashy websites; customer service is where it’s at if you want to stand out

A slick, flashy website may look the bee’s knees, but if there’s no substance behind it you won’t have customers knocking down your door.

Even if you have Twitter and Facebook, some customers are still going to want to talk to you.

Good old-fashioned customer service will always be a winner. No matter how well-manned your social channels are, customers will occasionally want to speak to a real person.

So, if you want a sure-fire way to make your business stand out, make sure you are open for business by showing your:

  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • Postal address

Don’t hide them away and make your customers jump through hoops to find them; make sure they’re all clearly listed on your contact page.

Don’t overlook the importance of your content

Not only is it essential that you make yourself available to your customers but your writing must also wrap them up in a comfy, cosy blanket of loveliness.

Eh?

Before you get to speak to your customers, you must draw them in, and only your writing will do that. But to get it right, it must tick numerous boxes:

  • Be written from a unique perspective
  • Written for your customer
  • Show the benefits you offer your customers, not your achievements as a company
  • Be visible to the search engines
  • Compelling and persuades the reader to act
  • Designed to sell, not inform
  • Professional and reflective of your business and your brand
  • Simple and unambiguous

Oh boy, that’s a lot to get right.

Exactly, which is why to become a customer magnet and champion of the marketing world, you must partner with a professional copywriter. Writing your own copy simply won’t cut it. You need someone with a different perspective, someone who can bring fresh, disruptive ideas to the table.

Yes, in a word, you need me!
