Is The Cloud Really Right For You?

Cloud computing

Today I’m taking a break from writing about copywriting and marketing and instead, addressing an issue that all businesses should be aware of – the cons of cloud computing.

You have to be in the cloud these days – at least that’s the message you’re always hearing.

Anyone who’s anyone is using it. If you want to get a head of the rest, you have to be in the cloud. It’s economical, secure and, of course, the future.

Now, it’s worth remembering that much of that hype is coming from the cloud providers. They have, so far, created an air of conformity, so businesses are hitching their wagons to the cloud simply because everyone else is doing it.

Granted, it’s a fantastic innovation, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best choice for every business. For millions, on-premises remains the safest and most cost effective hosting model.

The main things to remember are that:

  • Every business is different
  • On-premises hosting isn’t about to become extinct
  • The cloud may not be as cheap or secure as you expect

I was interested to stumble across this infographic on the Business2Community blog that illustrates the dark side of the cloud.

Hopefully, seeing the cloud from the other side will help you make a more informed decision about whether it’s right for you.
